Why are water bottles made of PETE instead of HDPE?

Thousands of plastic bottles are exchanged daily among consumers. But maybe no one has ever thought about what kind of material is used to make these plastics.

You probably don't know the difference between bottles made of HDPE and bottles made of PET. This issue becomes important when the bottle cap does not stay on it or the bottle cracks. It determines the difference in quality.

Is HDPE safer? Or PET?

In general, bottles made of low-quality plastic do not last that long . If medicines are packed in inappropriate bottles, they are very dangerous for children and animals.

Some plastics are completely unsafe and cause toxins to penetrate into food and liquids. This issue becomes more complicated when they are exposed to heat. Of course, this does not apply to HDPE and PET bottles. Plastics made of HDPE are currently considered as a very low risk plastic.

Plastic containers made of PET (pet plastic bottles)

PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate, which is also called PETE as a short term. This type of plastic is transparent, strong, but very light in weight.

The material is used to make plastic bottles to use as drink bottles and salad dressings, shampoo bottles, peanut butter, oil bottles, etc.

As we said, PET plastic has proven for 30 years that it is very safe for food, beverage and medicine packaging. Another feature of PET is its high resistance to microorganisms and it is 100% recyclable.

PET is used as the most popular plastic in the world. PET does not contain bisphenol or phthalates and does not cause biodegradation.

Another feature of PET is that it can be molded in any shape and size. Due to its transparency, the product inside the bottle can be seen easily.

HDPE or high density polyethylene (HDPE plastic)

HDPE or high-density polyethylene is found in all products that have rigid and flexible materials. The versatility of this material has caused it to be used for items such as storage containers and bags.

This plastic has a light weight, but at the same time it is very strong and resistant to impact. This lightweight plastic is used as a suitable substitute for metals, wood and car parts.

This substance fully complies with the standards of the Food and Drug Organization and is safe for food, liquids and medicinal uses. Like PET, HDPE does not contain bisphenols or phthalates.

HDPE also has other important features, such as the ability to withstand high cold so that it can withstand up to minus 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

This feature makes it suitable for food and products that need to be frozen. It also has the ability to withstand a temperature between 212 and minus 220 degrees.

But in general, what is the difference between HDPE and PET bottles?

Many people ask about the differences between these two materials. As we mentioned in the previous articles and this article, the plastics made of PET are transparent and like glass, but the plastics made of HDPE are more opaque and flexible.

Both materials are safe and excellent for the purposes mentioned. HDPE bottles are much more resistant to impact and cracking

Why do we use plastic in general?

Plastics are durable and light. They are economical for transportation and ideal for storage. Bottles that are whiter provide more protection by blocking light.
