Why is most food packaging plastic

Plastic packaging is very effective in our daily life Including:Protection,Duration of storage,Preventing the increase of waste,Transportation,Information Display

Protection: Some of the products that are produced are vulnerable and plastics protect them from pollution, transportation hazards, humidity, microbes, insects and sunlight.

Duration of storage: Plastics increase the storage time of products. That is, in some cases where we do not need to use that product, they protect it.

Preventing the increase of waste: It keeps products together and reduces waste.

Transportation: Products can be sent to distant areas by using plastic packaging. This issue causes export and import in countries and boosts the economy.

Information Display: Plastic packaging provides more information about the product, food recommendations, standards and expiration dates.

What would happen if there were no plastic packaging?

As we said, plastic packaging is very useful in the modern world we live in. Their most important use is to protect food from spoilage. The waste that is created as a result of food has a great impact on the environment and has a larger carbon footprint than packaged waste.

With plastic packaging; foods stay longer on the shelves, travel longer distances and preserve the food. Because otherwise, the food produced would quickly disappear and the investment in this field would be practically useless (shelf life).

Some plastics have very different functions, for example: they are completely safe for food packaging / they are flexible / they are transparent or opaque / they are resistant to chemicals and heat.

In previous articles, we have mentioned HDPE and PET plastics. Therefore, it can be said that plastics are ideal for packaging (types of plastics).

Plastic packaging is one of the most effective factors in reducing the environmental impact of the product life cycle.

If plastic packaging is used, compared to replacing it with other materials, environmental costs will be saved. Environmental costs include carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere.

Of course, it should be kept in mind that some plastic packaging ends up in rivers and seas, and in this regard, governments need to focus on these issues and make sure that these plastic items enter the recycling cycle.

Now let's examine some other advantages of plastic packaging:

Safety: As you know, plastic is resistant to breakage. If you hit plastic containers, they will not break. Therefore, using them for hygiene products in the bathroom, by the pool, by the beach or in the car is very useful.

Health: Plastics protects products from all kinds of pollution. This issue is of great importance for medical purposes, especially syringe packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, etc.

Light weight of plastic packaging: Plastic packaging has a lighter weight, so it occupies less space

High durability: It is true that plastic packaging is durable, but it can also be thin. This is the reason why trucks and airplanes do not have any problems for transportation.

The versatility of plastic packaging: Plastic packaging can be turned into many different things. It can be blown, injected, plastic packaging can easily be used to package paste and sauce.

Recyclability : Plastics can be reused many times to produce newer products, this is very high in the UK.
